16 adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 16-UNFCCC), held in Canc\u00fan in 2010, establishes that, when implementing REDD+ activities, countries that desire financial compensation must adopt REDD+ Safeguards<\/p>\n<p>The main functions of REDD+ Safeguards are to reduce risks and negative impacts, as well as enhance positive impacts. They also aim to protect and promote the rights of the communities involved and preserve the functioning of ecosystems and social and economic benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The seven Safeguards for REDD+
