Benefit Sharing

Benefit Sharing
How is the investment divided?

The distribution of REM MT resources was defined based on a study by the Amazon Research Institute (IPAM) that used the “Stock-Flow” approach to measure the contribution of different groups to forest protection, both those that maintained the forests and those that reduced their deforestation rates.

  • Carbon stock (conserved forests): It rewards indigenous peoples and traditional communities that keep the forest standing, ensuring the maintenance of stored carbon.
  • Carbon flux (deforestation reduction): It benefits farmers and rural producers who have reduced their deforestation rates, contributing to the reduction of emissions.

This logic guided the allocation of resources as follows:

Phase 1 (2018-2024)

The investment distribution strategy for Phase I of the REM MT Program was presented to the state's REDD+ governance bodies: the Mato Grosso Climate Change Forum, the REDD+ Management Council, and the REM MT State Management Committee, which defined the following benefit distribution:

40%

of the resources were allocated to institutional strengthening, supporting agencies responsible for implementing environmental and REDD+, social, and economic development policies, as well as monitoring and monitoring public policies. They also support the strengthening of the PCI Strategy

60%

Of the resources, 100% were allocated to the Program's direct beneficiaries, aiming to support small and medium-sized producers, extractive communities, Indigenous peoples, and traditional communities. Furthermore, the program aims to develop innovative technologies and support the development of sustainable markets for the state's commodities.

REDD+ PROGRAM for Pioneers BENEFIT SHARING
Phase II (2024-2029)

Phase II of the REM MT Program maintains the benefit sharing approach used in Phase I and maintains the structure organized into four subprograms. This phase has the following distribution:

55%

to the direct beneficiaries of the program, ensuring continuity and new investments for actions to support small and medium-sized producers, extractive communities, indigenous peoples and traditional communities.

29,75%

to strengthen actions to combat deforestation and structuring public policies of government institutions.

15%

for efficient and transparent implementation of the program, aimed at operational costs, under the management of SEMA's International Programs and Projects Unit.
